Against the recommendation of the Delaware County Planning Commission, the Media Borough Planning Commission, and the wishes of most the residents that were present the Borough Council chose to approve the developer’s preliminary plan as a preliminary/Final plan for 115 W. Sixth St. This occurred while residents shouted at the Borough Council to “Follow your own ordinance and follow your own law!” when Councilman Robinson tried to claim that they were voting YES because they wished to follow the law.

To be clear, the Council didn’t take an illegal vote. The Council was within it’s right to choose to vote to pass a preliminary/final plan together. However, most members of the public and on it’s own Borough planning commissions recommended to NOT do so and only approve the developer’s preliminary plans because there were still some issues to be worked out that a final plan could address.

Nonetheless, it was clear that in the end of the day the majority of the Council decided to not follow its own ordinance, just like it didn’t enforce it’s “mask ordinance” that could penalize someone for up to $1000 for not wearing a mask during a mass gathering event (wonder if this ordinance is still appropriate?). The vote was 5-2 in favor of approving the plan.

It is time that we elect Media Borough Councilmembers that will uphold the laws on the books and work to eliminate ordinances that are unnecessary and overburndensome! Make sure to vote REPUBLICAN on Nov. 2nd, 2021!
